no bass from my mids, cdt comps. why?

when i first installed my comp set, before i hooked up everything i tested just the mid driver off of HU power. it had alot of bass, even being free aired. now after ive hooked up the crossover and the tweeter, there is little to no bass. when i turn off the HPF on my HU, and put the bass up a little bit, theres bass but it sounds like complete shit. my stock stereo in my s10 has better bass from its 6 1/2's. why is this? i cant understand why its doing this. i mean, even with the mids being free aired before i hooked the rest up, it almost sounded like i had a 10" hooked up to about 150w of power. it got freakin loud. but now, nothing. any ideas? i have them amped now, the amp in my sig. but even then, still no bass. these are midrange drivers, not midbass. right? the ones with the little cone sticking out thru the middle of the cone. i dont understand why it has bass without the xover hooked up, but no bass/shitty bass with it hooked up. ANY ideas. please help. looks like i wont have my subs back and running for quite some time and im sick of not having any bass.

um. yeah. its not to hard to set them up. i dont see how i could have it hooked up wrong. amp to the input on the xover, mid to the mid on the xover, and the tweeter to the tweeter on the xover. not to complicated.

one of your mids hooked up backwards
well if one of them is hooked up backwards, than if i fade it all the way to the left, or right, one of them should get louder. ive done this. and it doesnt get any more bass response.

not necissarily.

try switching one of them. whats it gonna take, 2 minutes? do you have rear speakers? try unhooking them, maybe its out of phase w/ the rear...

By backwords they meen +/- not tweeter & mid..

Inphaze would make the speaker move Out

out Of Phaze it will move in..

make sure the +'s are all hooked to +

& All - Are hooked to -'s

Good luck..

*update* went outside, messed with it. i switched the +/- on my input around, and my +/- on my woofer terminal on the xover. got more bass. turned the hpf off on the HU, doesnt sound bad anymore. mustve just had them crossed. thanks for the help.. if anything else occurs ill let u know. ive done this before on the same comp set, but only switched the +/- on one of the inputs, and after 5 mins or so of play time i smelt burnt electronics. so i switched it back. we'll se how this goes. its not nearly as much bass as i was hoping for but it should do the trick until i get my subs back up again. i just ordered a new eclipse 2way 6.5" set tonight, so when i do those ill double and triple check all wiring. thx for the help guys.

hooking them up backwards will do NOTHING to hurt electronics. it doesn't care, a signal is a signal.....as long as its a clean one. you were probably smelling voice coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
