Yes, still set it with a DMM. Even if the amp is rated at less than the RMS rating of the sub, the amp still may send a clipped signal to the sub. It's the clipped signal that may cause the damage, not necessarily the power being fed to it.Does the gain matter if the amp your using can't even come close to maxing out the rms least of all the max wattage of the subs your using? With the volume up 30/34 on my hu i can turn to gain all over the place and i can't hear any type of distortion etc...so is it still worth it to set it with a dmm?
