Well apparently they can, or Casper's would have blown. Besides, they're only supposed to be run at 4 or 2 ohm loads. If you ran a 1ohm load, and it blew, it's your own fault.

Some people have told me that the chrome reflects sunlight, therefore the amp doesn't get as hot as others. Is this true?

Not sure, I never installed it, so I can't say. Makes sense though. People put reflectors in their windshields to keep their cars cool. Either way, the air intake should keep it cool enough.
