NewSetup

Hi guys I'm new here and need some help

I have had my 08 Ford Ranger for a couple months know and I need to upgrade my sound.

Looking for a deck and front speakers.

Nothing too fancy but above average would be nice, looking to spend around $300 total with installation(where should i get this installed)

Thanks a lot guys

You dont HAVE to buy an amp, but an amp, speakers, and the h/u and install kit/wiring harness is likely going to run you over 300, also you can't run the subwoofer on the same amp as the speakers unless its a 5 channel or another amp specifically designed to run both at the same time

This is a decent unit I used to have a while ago

I also used to have these speakers and they would be nice if you dont plan on running a speaker amp and dont want to modify your door to fit componets

ok...so I switch out my old front speakers for these pioneer ones without having to buy an amp, how easy is it to do this on my own

the deck, same question as the speakers how easy is it to install

finally...so if i want to buy a new sub later on, i will need to buy an amp for it?

also how long did those speakers last for you and how did they work for you

The speakers were nice for what they are, and they lasted for almost a year until the motor in my Cougar blew and I sold the car for scrap, to get a sub later on yes you will need to buy an amp for it, Changing out the deck shouldn't be too much of a problem, you will probably need to remove one or two peices of the dash trim to get the old one out, and the new one will just slide in place the same way the old one came out, you will need to buy a dash kit and a wire harness for your truck to be able to put the new deck in (about $15-$20 each) and the dash kit should have an instruction booklet to show exactly how to swap the decks. You will need about a dozen wire nuts to hook the wire harness to the back of the deck, the wires are color coded so that should be easy. The speakers shouldnt be much of a problem either, all you need to do is pull off your doorpanel and they will be a direct replacement.

I would stay away from the 6x8s and go with either some 5 1/4" comps or 6.5" comps that fit in the doors. Check my sig regarding the Mustang because my 6x8s are about to go bye bye! I know some Type Rs would fit rather easily and they come with the 6x8 to 6.5" adapter plate that works in a Ford. You can make the PG RSd 6.5" comps work, but it will take a little effort on your part to roll your own adapter plate.

Like the above poster said I would stay away from the 6x8's and get a 5 1/4 or 6.5. You will be amazed at how much better they sound. Also for the adapter plates, they can be purchased off Ebay for I believe $15 and you can get any size adapter you need. I got a 4x6 to 6.5" in my sunfire. The Phoenix Gold RSD's would be a nice choice for someone starting out. I would just get the component set and a good deck for the time being. Then later down the road add a 2 channel for the speaker's. You could probably get the RSD's online for around $80 shipped, the adapter plates for my sunfire were $20 shipped, go to a local shop where you can get a basic alpine, pioneer, panasonic deck for about $120 and install would probably run about about 40-50 if the price's are anything like they are at my local shop.
