Newer lines of Alpines made cheaper?

I've heard that the new Alpine HU's are made cheaper. Any truth to this? I've been looking for a new HU and have been looking at the CDA-9851. I've already done a quick search on them, and they seem to be pretty good. Should I go with this cd player, a different model (around the same price range) or a totally different brand?

alpine went downhill from last to present's year

I made a mistake and sold my 9835 for the 9855

I think I'm going to go with the 7998 IMO the best one out to date
