New vs blown or refurb

x3 what he ^ said. There aren't any moving parts in an amplifier besides a fan - if it was done right, it will last a long time. Heat and vibration would be the most common reasons an amp would fail over time besides improper installation.

Consider this...If you buy a broken Kicker amp for instance...Some of the parts are propriatary to Kicker and they wont sell anyone parts so it would have to go to them if it has issues with those parts...It rarely comes up but it could happen (just happened to me and I fix amps so it really sucked to have to send it off) ...Really large amps with many outputs in either the power supply or the output section or most likely both will not be cheap to repair if alot of them are bad...Ive gotten amps in before needing 30 or more fets replaced in them..at 2.50 a peice(being conservative) and the three hours involved in getting the amp apart..replacing all them and getting it back together and testing it...your looking at some cash..add what you gave for it and how far are you from a new one? Doesnt happen all the time..Ive had quite a few come through that were cheap and easy..but it can be really bad...

Just be careful which "blown" amp you pick. Not all are rebuildable to as good as new, some amps have cheap PCB's in them and if they are blown to hell and need to be repaired, the tech will have to "patch up" the PCB traces etc with wire, braid etc and it just isn't as reliable as if it were a amp with a better PCB to start with. Some of my favorites to rebuild that always come out nice are"

Of course the Sundown amps, great PCB

Atomic

American Bass

And many others

If you have a question about a certain board whether it's worth trying to rebuild it like new or not, just email me sales@db-r.com and I will help you out with picking one and give you a repair quote as well if you want it.
