New Uneducated Roommate...

I love the shallows, they sound very close to the w6 but need to be tuned lower to get same low end response. I would be running w7's if it wasn't an under the back seat install. I may run w7's in my house if I can figure out an enclosure
Ill take some Arc Flatlines over W7s all day everyday, no matter what the purpose. They out do them in just about every way possible. But thats crazy, would not think shallow mounts would be even close to some W6s, when the W6s are so highly praised.

Hell I have $1000 in sound deadening as is. Let alone gear......
If you guys are having glass and motorization for less than $3000 with a full quality gear setup.....props to you.
U live in Canada, you are excluded from this argument... Lol. But I think it is easy to piece together an incredible system for less than $3k. Its not gotta be world class, cuz of course some W6s and some XR components are not world class, if that was the case he should have some W7s and some ZR components. Not sure how many layers of deadner you have, but Im pretty sure most can get away with 2 or 3 rolls of AT 80 mil, at most.

Jesus how much deadener do you have? Most cars only need like 50-75 sqft to be deadened fine, that comes out to like 200-300 depending what kind of stuff you get.

Well I have deadener, ensolite and mlv......I should have stated "sound proofing".
But as far as actual deadener......about $$750. I have RHS in my truck. and AT. (RHS ain't cheap)
Oh, so basically you went unnecessarily overboard... That makes more sense. You could get some camping mat instead of MLV, which is hella cheap. Not sure what ensolite is tho.

Took me 100sq ft on just the roof to stop the sound. It's not really overboard. I've got about a grand in deadener too. I actually see $3600 as a fair price for 2 12s, just not 1000w + the output 2 JLs would do. I'm no SQ person, so $3600 for 2500-300w, 2 12s, HO alt, batteries, deadener, HU, box, mids/highs, mids/highs amp sounds fair.

Just checked out the equipment list on sonic. (seems to have good prices). The XR's come up as discontinued but the price showed 320/pr so I just picked two pairs of c5's for the same price.

Anyway, the total without any cable, box, (no shipping either) or labor.....$3,129.89

Not saying he couldn't do better for the money, but it seems like he got a good deal on that particular equipment if it included a proper install.

Just goes to show how much you don't know about car audio. Camping mat is nothing like MLV. But thanks for showing me your actual knowledge on the situation.

Curious as to why you think a tw5 would not compare to a w6? The TW5s are extremely impressive drivers

Bahahaha, are you serious? They are alomst the exact same material... The outside coating is a little different, that is it. Makes no sense to be mad, cause you overpaid... All, MLV is anyways is a noise barrier... Many things can be used for this.

Maybe impressive for what they are, but no way would I think that a shallow mount could compete with a full sub. That technology needs to be used by all companies, and just make regular subs obsolete.

idk yeah its a little over priced but i had a 1000/2 for a while and never had problems very powerful........w3s liked them before they blew "user error" and my w6s i have had for a year and they have taken everything i give them, and stay in shape, and the sq is just plain out aweasome.

regrets no.

i actually just ordered 13.5 w7s for more reasons than quality and sq......because of its extra cone area its basically a 15, and the excursion is 33mm one way(xmax) and since my box is only 15 inches tall and there is no way anybody is getting a bigger box in my car unless they seal off the trunk, and or build a wall.....it really is the best option for me, with my new speakers and amps it has become more of an sq set up anyways.

this of coarse is just my opinion but i have used brands from boss, fosgate, alpine, jl audio, kicker, jbl, pioneer, jvc, fi, audiopipe, etc.... it all comes down to

"personal tastes, and opinions"

Yea I hear you, and the W7s are great subs, no doubt about that. I am just not impressed by any JL product because of the price, but used prices are great. I heard the W6s last night, and they were alright. I mean he said his gains were down, so maybe thats why they didnt impress me, but they didnt sound anywhere near the iDMax I used to have or the Arc Flatline. I am gonna talk to him about getting a ported box built, it is currently sealed, but my iDMax was sealed and my OZs are sealed as well, so I am basing my comparisons off of spec sealed boxes.
