So, I was planning on getting a new receiver (actually a surround sound processor) sometime towards the end of summer. But I went into my local shop can came across a deal I COULD NOT PASSS UP.... I will post up picture on Tuesday when I have it installed. I was looking at originally getting a Rotel RSP-1068 which is pretty nice but I got such a good deal I got the RSP-1098 which is totally *******!!!

Hell, I wish I had a "local shop"...the closest store with a decent product line is in Roanoke, and there's absolutely nothing here in NC.

Nice piece //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

...for something solid state...j/k

j/k I love their stuff. My favorite local shop closed down a few years ago //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'm too broke for home audio. I have seen some of focals high-end home stuff at tweeter, and it is bad-***! Those mesh speakers are insane. The salesman explained how they work, but all I could do was scratch my head.
BS.

Home audio has a stigma of being insanely expensive - which some of it is. But if you shop right, and can use a soldering iron, it's amazing what you can find out there. Mike S. over on CSO makes me feel bad with what he's built //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Sure, it may not look like something you'd bring to CES, but I'll be ****ed, for what some people spend on HTIBs, you can do a whole bunch with two channels and a sub.

The ultra-high end gives the rest of it a bad name...you know, the $10,000 phono cartridges and $500 a meter interconnects.

oops, thought these were focals, but theyre MartinLogans....

i dont know how they work but holy hell.
ML's are just Electro-static speakers. If you search the internet you can find a lot about how they work. I've heard my fare share of the Martin Logans and while the new "smaller" ones don't blow me away the full sized monsters can be very impressive with their sound staging //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i've got an alright system at home, dont get me wrong. but it seems like all the good stuff is expensive out the wazoo.
Set of high end home speakers: easily over $2000

Set of decent car audio components: (MBQ QSD's for example) $1200 retail
you're comparing high end 3 or 4-way towers with built in crossover's and often sub channels, to a set of 3-way componets? that's not really fare, now if you throw in all the time and effort you spend on install, cost of install, imaging and all the whistle's to make QSD's sound good, it'd easily be 2g's or close to it.

BS.

very true. or you can be very lazy like me and have a good deal on some jbl h/t. e100 towers up front, S38II's for rear and S center and a 250w powered sub all for under 2500:D.

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I used to have a pair of JBL bookshelves...the S38's in beech. They were my dorm speakers, and while they weren't the most detailed or holographic speakers out there, they rocked out when needed...coupled with the Adire Rava, pretty much pwnt anyone's "computer" speakers in nearby rooms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

ha i bet. i've got my old yamaha executive shelf system in my bedroom acting as pc speakers. i took out the old 4" speakers and put in some CSS's:D. add in a 8" sub and it sounds good.
