Well ill be getting my car soon and i would like to have a decent system in it. i know ill be going with a pioneer head-unit, from what i hear there real good. now about subs, amps and speakers. i only want 1 sub, ( it will be going in a 03 gti) whats better and why? kicker, JL, or MTX? or is it just prefrence. My friend has a mtx sub, i guess its 12 or 15 inches in a decent size box and he has 1 amp for the sub and 1 for the speakers. im not sure what speakers he has but his system sounds real good. you can still hear the words and its not too much bass were you cant hear the words. my cousin has 4 10" subs and it sounds like crap becuase its just too much. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Would it be a bad idea to just bring my car to a audio place and say, here i want my car to sound like his..

Look into decent front speakers first; then concentrate on filling in the low end. Also establish a budget for your system. Don't forget to include the hidden costs such as install, wiring, add-ons, etc.

a gti is a vw (i believe). small 4 door hatchback, very easy to get loud.

and you should post a budget, there's tons of stuff you can look at but if you post a budget, and system goals (sq, spl), it'll help people recommend stuff for you.

its a 2 door hatchback gti, my friend has one mtx sub with 2 amps 1 for the sub and one for the speakers, like i said im not looking for anything TOO crazy.. so are jl kicker and mtx any good?

i want to get the pioneer headunit which is like 400 bucks, for my total i'd like to spend no more then about 1500 on a good system, which leaves me with 1100 for speakers, amps, subs and whatever else i need. is this a decent budget?

I would go with a Sundown SAE-1000d ($329) powering a Fi Q ($259 for a 12", $279 for a 15"), and a Sundown SAX-100.2 ($229) Which leaves you almost 300 for a set of components, in the classifieds on this site there is a set of Alpine Type X 6.5" components that are incredible for $149. Look at knukonceptz for wiring needs.
