New subs to big, what to do?

I have a ext cab 98 dodge ram. I purchased a 10" sub that fits under rear bench seat. Well now I have upgraded subs and need more depth in the box (around 3-3.5"). Does anyone see a problem with me simply added on to the front of the box on sealing it up good or do I need to build a completely new box to allow for what I need.

Also is there any curtain type of wood that I should use while building this?

You could build the front end of your box up via MDF similar to how some do baffle boards provided you don't go too thick to where it interferes with the box actually fitting under your rear seat. It can be made to look OK provided you do it right and it will seal up perfectly provided you glue it directly to the wood on your old box.

So to recap you would need to remove any carpet/paint on your existing enclosure THEN:

1. Obtain some additional 3/4" MDF then cut and align your subwoofer hole in each layer of MDF you wish to add to your box

2. Add a layer or four of the 3/4" MDF to the existing enclosure via glue, screws, etc for each layer.

3. Re-carpet or paint to match your existing enclosure and you are done!

Then again, that is a lot of work to modify an existing enclosure. You may be better served by just building another enclosure or selling your "upgraded sub" and getting a sub that actually fits in your existing enclosure.
