Right now I've got two rockford 12in p3's (100 bucks each when i worked at bestbuy, figured id try them) wired to a bx1000d in a 1.5 cube sealed box (manual recommended .75 each)

They get, pretty loud, but not loud enough for me. I've never been a fan of RF anyway. But my question is, should I port the existing subs? I was also looking into maybe 2 L7 12's sealed, 1 L7 ported, or maybe an SX12 ported.

I'm worried about space issues, the car is a 1998 maxima, so i don't have a ton of room to work with, which makes me think porting any more then 1 sub would be a difficult fit. Possibly even going the route of a XXX, but i wouldn't want to have to scale down the size of the box TOO much. I want something loud, and like a lot of people said, SQ is different to everyone. I've heard numerous type R set ups, they sound just as clean as my rockfords, and even my old crappy audiobahns for the music i listen to (rap and techno), although for rock type music, they sounded 150% better.

Any ideas? The budget is like $400 bucks or so, but I could kick it up higher if it'd be worth it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

I would port the subs you have and then if you still do not like the way they sound get rid of them. Make the ported box to work well with the posssible replacement subs. You can get two RE SE's for under $400.

yeah, thats a good idea keeping the 'new' subs in mind while making the box.

I've read pretty much every post about RE subs. I just want to make sure the next subs I get are MUCH better then what I have now. The loudest and best sounding subs I've ever heard are my friends 3 12in w6's off an old school 1000w(i think) memphis amp. I want something comparable to that, I'd give up the SQ for more SPL though also, thats why I was wondering about the L7s

The L7's or L5's will do that and then some. No matter what subs you go with ported will be louder and the box needs to be correctly done. L7/XXX/SX will all accomplish what you are looking for. With that amp you want to make sure you have a final 1 ohm load. 2 of the new 12 inch L5's or L7's in a good ported box would be very loud assuming you have that type of space.
