New power wire for radio, how do I run it?

A buddy of mine bought an 87 mustang, and the wiring for the stereo is a mess, I've deciphered most of it, the only problem is, the power wire is coming straight off the battery, which means its live all the time, and if I hook that up, it'll drain the battery

So I've got to run a new power wire that will switch off when the car is off, so how do I do that, do I go from the back of the fuse panel?

I know that, but with the constant 12v only it won't turn off with the car, so for the ignition 12v can I just run it from the back of the fuse box?
Just find an ignition hot wire under the dash.. splice it into that and fuse it... I miss my mustangs, but i don't miss the speeding tickets.

there should be a factory wire running to the deck hole that is switched. might be yellow/black but not positive. anyway, if you find no switched power make sure all the fuses are good and none are missing where they are supposed to be some. also the cig light might be switched so you can tap off that if it is.
