Newbie here. Great site with lots of great info.

I am running a set of Zapco ck 13.2 components with and old Zapco Studio 204. It sounds great, but I'm wondering if I could be missing something.

My question is, are the new amps any better sounding, etc. than the old school stuff? I have considered getting more power for these and have been looking at another old Zapco but have wondered if I should be looking at the new stuff. Is it worht it? What are the benefits going to be if any?

Thanks!

it depends. alot of old school amps were handmade with more care than the china made stuff now - but you can have awesome amps from both worlds.
me, im an oldschool fan.

I agree,,,just really depends on how far you wanna go //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif I still have yet to find an amp like the old rockford power 650 or power 1000!There might be but at a hella cost!I can get a mint power 1000 sometimes on ebay from $450 to $700 plus depending on the edition(shroud). You get a 1000watt amp nowadays,it cant hold a candle to the power 1000 partially because it underated just as alot of oldschool amps were.I personally would stay oldschool.Just look for an "oldschool upgrade" on ebay LOL!I know Lanzar was good in the 90's but I think they have gone down in quality since then...Im not to sure with lanzar

If it were me,I'd upgrade the subs if I wanted newer models but thats about it.The comp versions of the new stuff seem to be better

Thanks for all the replies. Old school it is then.

Rich B- I am currently running the 204 in 4 channel mode, but was going to bridge it and give it a try. Is that the best thing to do in your opinion?

I don't think so...

the new class d amps are just so much better. This is coming from someone who use the old school RF power 1000. Awesome amp but it killed my electrical system. It ran 3x 10w6 great.

Now i'm going with a new class d amp with only 1x 13w6v2. But my brother loves my old RF....

^Thats the only thing thats holding me back. My kicker zx750.1 blew up and I have a soundstream reference that is at the shop now because there is a bad channel and im going to put that in instead of the kicker but holy shit thats going to ruin my electrical.

There were plenty efficient old school Class-D amps (Xtant, RF for example). Switching amplifiers is being with us for at least 25 years.
