Hello fellow members.

I'll start off by telling you that I've been in *car audio* and *home theater* for about 27 years now.

I've worked as a car audio installer in two shops back in my younger years, when I was living a dream of hopefully making a career of it, but commuting killed me.

I was a self taught by reading Car Stereo Review magazines back in the day; yeah I'm a little old, but still hold the passion.

With *being old* already said, I'll put icing on the cake by telling you that I only build and deal with sealed sub enclosures due to sound quality and the -6 db per octave slope roll-off.

I like my creations to hit as low as possible with sound quality; which IMO a sealed enclosure gives.

I can care less about SPL.

Why did I choose this forum? - It had the most registered users.

Why did I join? - I have a deep technical questions, which I hope can be answered.

I look forward to conversing with all members.

Take a look here. This owned the SQ lanes and its ported.

in this forum you will learn that ported enclosures can hit lows with better SQ if built right. I just don't think you have heard the perfect ported enclosure and once you do believe me you will feel different about going sealed. I used to be all about sealed because I thought that they are the only enclosure type that can give you that clean tight low bass. built my first ported box and the low bass sounds the same as it did when I was running them sealed, its just that it was twice as loud. loud, clean, and low is never a bad thing

What is your definition of *low*?

like 20-30hz. ported boxes are superior to sealed boxes in everyway. ppl only use sealed boxes to save space 60% of the time and the other 40% like the tight bass it gives, and don't care about low freq bass at all, and also don't care about how much better it can sound in a vented enclosure

Correct and the key word you used is *space*.

I realize ported can hit low, but it takes space to achieve, plus your dealing with a -12db per octave slope.

I like seats and steering wheels to shake at 15hz.

That's why you drop the size down. If you are playing 15hz you are not playing much else even sealed

lol then go ported. not only will you shake your steering wheel and seats, but you will also be shaking the persons who are in your radius's seats also
