seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic. It is supposed to have less side effects like tardive dyskinesia than the older antipsychotics like Mellaril or haldol. Google tardive dyskinesia if you dont know what it is...i’ve seen it first hand and it is nothing to mess with…and remember that at one time they claimed the older generation antipsychotics didnt cause it either.... :\
I believe seroquel are still classified as a 'major tranquilizer' which might sound good, but trust me it is not. They are the ones they knock people down in mental institutions settings. The 'minor tranquilizers' like valium/xanax/klonopin are a safer bet IMO… as long as you don’t have any addiction problems and are thinking short term.
I bet you claimed you couldn’t sleep and they just wrote you an order for “25mg Q HS PO” …. 25mg by mouth at bedtime….. Any doctor will tell you they’re completely safe and they do in fact make you sleep most times, even if it takes 100mg.
But they leave you ‘snowed’ the next day, not in a good way, and I personally wouldn’t take anything with even a remote possibility of tardive dyskinesia.
Isnt your affect/mood flat enough from the depkote? How much of that do you take? are you bi polar 2 or what?
