I just got off the phone with Adire.

Since any of these choices other than a JL 10W3V2 I would have to buy Blind I want to ask you experts.

The adire rep seemed to think that the new Koda 10 that will be released next month whould have similar if not better SQ than a JLW6V2 of the same size, but less output. However he also said I could expect a bit more output than a 10 W3V2 and more SQ.

What I did not like about the adire koda subs is that they seem REALLY Basic. Treated paper cone with foam surround (not even rubber).

IMO Foam becomes more brittle than rubber much faster. Should I be concerned with this?

here is a link to the size boxes I'm dealing with.

the 10 inch version of this box fits with a slight mod also.

Other Option is to go with RLi 8's and make them forward firing (can't fit a 10 forward firing) How would these compare to Koda 10's? JLW2V2 10's?

I'm buying def so please try to describe the difference if you have experience with these.

I had some old home audio 10's and 12' s that I had to have re-foamed But I'm not sure how old they were, from the 80's I think. Still sound good enough since I can't turn my music up too loud anyways. I was thinking a car environment is much more Harsh and foam seems like it could be damaged and worn much easier than rubber. So I guess it would not matter then.

I've had 2 of the RL-i8's ported tuned to 34hz. The ouput is simply amazing. SQ surpases many drivers I have used.

You will have to wait for them though. They are being re-tooled and upgraded:D

The Koda 10 has been out for a while, IIRC...it was the 12 and 15 versions that they were waiting on.

Their entire lineup is now revamped. All the previous subs are just that. All new Koda lineup coming out.

As to the foam comment, All JL drivers has a foam surround. Now with that being said, there are many debates on the foam versus rubber argument and a notable one by Dan Wiggins is floating around there somewhere.

I really don't know how anyone is going to be able to do a comparison on any driver(s) not publicly available.

I undersatnd what you mea they are not out yet, but I should still be able to get an Idea.

The new Koda is supposed to work in tight spaces, now I should probably not take adires word on this but they seemed honest saying it was similar SQ to JL W6V2 but not as much output. Still I think a comparison of XBL^2 motor vs something like a W3 as far as the "type" and "quality" of sound is concerned seems reasonable, obviously no1 knows exactly how the new koda will perform. I have heard the new version should work well in a small sealed box with as low as .5'^2 of space but I have never heard an XBL^2 sub. I have never owned a sub with a paper cone eiter, but the ones on my DLS Iridiums seem to work fine.

the new RLI8's I think should be about the same or better than they are now. Feel free to compare the existing version to the JLW3V2 in a 10 inch vesion, would the old RLI 8 have similar output to a W3V2 10? How would the SQ compare?

It may not be fare to compare an 8 to a 10, but in my case it is fair since it is all about what I can fit and how I can fit them.

The RLI 10 inch is a bit too deep to fit downfiring, and I can only fit 8's forward firing.

If I pre-order now I ma be able to get the new koda 10's for really cheap.

I have a 600 x1@4 ohm, 300x2 @ 2 ohm Older US made Hifonics amp. (I think it is US made anyways) That is why I must choose which of these subs will give the best SQL considering Box options, Downfiring 10's Vs Smaller Subs Forward Firing.

I thought the Koda 10's sounded amazing already. Are they saying its a step in SQ to compare the new ones to W6's?

edit: And imo you dont need to worry about the cone material. Way overhypes aspec of a speaker today imo. Some of the best speakers (and more specifically subs) in the world have used paper cones. Treated paper gives one of the best weight to strength ratios of any material being used today. certainly better than the now popular aluminum cones. I dont worry much about the debate on surround material either, Ive owned some using both types, never had one fail on me due to the surround material. Home speakers are another story, but then they dont use the same surround material for home speakers usually.

No I asked the rep to compare SQ and output of the new version to W3V2, he said output was between W3 and W6 V2 but the SQ was closer to the W6V2 level than the W3 level. He did make sure I understood the Voice Coils are smaller tan the W6, but hey, I can't fit a W6 in there!

Your saying eve the old version had Much better SQ than the W6? Will putting them in a small downfiring box as show in my links with only 1.5-2 inches between the speaker and ground destroy the SQ?

I believe the W6 is JL's best SQ sub so thats a very positive comment. that is to say it will still perform better than W3's in a tiny .75' box.

Yeah Im not taking away from the W6, I agree they are a great SQ sub. But imo the Koda 10 stood on its own, no need for such a comparison. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Just an opinion tho I guess, no biggy.

look if u really want to make that 10w3 do its thing..u need 500watts..

dammmn i hate when people are scared to power the w3's...

I disagree. My pair was obscene with 400 watts. That's more than they needed. It's easiest and safest to use the least amount of power you need.

Will the Koda 10's in a downfiring box, be better for SQL or SQ than the current build of RLI 8's in a forward firing box?

I know every vehicle is different but it's not much different than other extended cab trucks. Shoud be similar to a chevy 1500

now tirefryr..i know u my boy an all..but i'm sorry to bust your bubble...but i got a vid of my 10w3 with 600watts in a 2cube box tuned at 29hz and it loving it right now.....i've had that 10 powered by one old school mtx rt2400x...that amp puts out 600watts @12.5 volts and 750watts @14.4..and i had that thing push my 10 for the last 3 years and i never had a problem with my 10w3 at all

u still my homie
