New here, need thoughts on my system

Would any of those options be better than my 800a2? And I really cant afford much more than 200$...(I'd have to sell the 800a2, and hope to get 200$ for it)

hey man i used to run a memphis m3 on a brutus 1606d. the brutus pushed power i was satisfied but they are junk. you are best at looking at an audio pipe. however i love my memphis m3 12 it was the 1st sub i have ever bought it takes 800 rms like a champ. but the sad thing is i just got my DD M3 amp and i blew up the memphis. haha didnt mean too just sent to much power to it. i feel the memphis m3's bottom out to easily tho. but now i have 2 DD 1508's to take its place. good luck with your system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea, 200 is about my limit. I supposed I might afford 250. If i sold the Fosgate, I might be able to add another 50$ or so. I seen some good deals on Brutus amps. Ive seen the BXi1600d for as low as 150...I know they wont do rated power, but what can I reasonably expect? Will the 1600 do 1200 at 1ohm? Meaning about 75% of its rated power? More, Less? I know they draw current because I believe the bxi1600 has 2 80 amp fuses

Many people have told me that if im gonna go the way of Hifonics, Im better off keeping my Fosgate 800a2. I had a small 2 channel Hifonics, and I was actually impressed with it for the price. A TXi 4008 brand new for 80$ and it pushed 2-12s at 2ohm mono (which it wasnt supposed to do) and pushed them fairly hard and rarely cut out..I supposed if the Brutus can do at least 75% of rated Id get one. Even 1200rms for 150 or so is still a good price. Although, I know the watts Hifonics throws are kind of "sloppy watts" if that makes sense

Hifonics amps are not anywhere close to SQ amps. If that is what you mean by sloppy. But they can make you loud.

And the bxi1600 should put out ~1400 or up if your electrical meets its demands. They aren't AWFUL, just not very good ha.

Another amp choice could be a SAZ1000 refurb. Or a AQ1200d. The believe the refurbished SAZ's are going for ~160 if you can find one. There should also be one in the classifieds here from a few days back. Great amps that will do at least rated power. The AQ will do right at rated power but is also a decent buy for 230 brand new or less used.

^exactly what I meant by sloppy watts. Sure, the watts are coming, but they arent necessarily gonna be the cleanest. Well, if the 1600 will do 1400, thats not bad. My electrical isnt very good tho. The brands you guys have been mentioning, SAZ, AQ etc. I have no experience with nor have I ever heard. How are they compared to Fosgate, kicker, Jl? Heard many of those. And Zapco, ARC for the higher quality. So how are they compared to the mainstream brands, ie Kicker, RF etc. And how are they to lesser known but better brands, ie Zapco, ArC etc.

Thanks

The Sundown amps are very solid. They put out plenty of power and don't sound "sloppy". I am running an AQ1200d and it is treating me great. Sounds clean, stays cool @ 1 ohm. Plus it has a clipping indicator which is always handy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I would take the AQ over my old Kicker again. Though the Kicker was not bad by any means. RF's newer stuff is adequate, but their older gear is what really shined. JL makes a good amp, though the price tag resembles that. Although i picked up my 300/2 used for a great price, and minus some cosmetic imperfections, i'm loving it. (i have my amps hidden and covered anyhow)

Arc's upper levels are great for sound quality. They make my ears smile.

yes, the older Fosgates are great, which is why Im kind of reluctant to get rid of mine. Its a solid 1000rms and the sq is respectable. I would essentially be trading mine for a Hifonics Brutus, AQ, SAZ etc

Why not keep it? If its fully functional, i would. saves money and you keep a nice piece of hardware. 1000rms will be plenty for that Treo, and about a million other capable woofers that would make you happy.

I'm giving my DC Level 4 ~1200rms (rated @ 1000rms) and it gets quite loud and sounds exceptional.

^ maybe I will...runs great and has a distinct advantage: most amps in my price range produce their power at 1ohm. My fosgate is rated at 800rms x1 at 4ohm on 12.8volts. So i have more wiring options (meaning im not forced to wire down in ohms to get the power i need). It isnt class d, so its not as efficient, but it gets the job done. And it pushed that Treo at one ohm like crazy. Going back to what i was saying about power at 4ohms, I could rewire the dvc2ohm in series for 4ohm, and still get "800"rms for that treo with the amp not breaking a sweat to run at 4ohms. Not to mention, this amp is 12yrs old and has never had any problem or defect. And Im in the process of trying to get the Treo if I can sell the stupid kickers. Being that I have already heard that Treo in my car on my amp, I know I will be satisfied with my setup.

Yeah those 800a2's are amazing, and valuable. It'd be a shame to sell it. Plus if it's doing 800 underrated @ 12.8, and most car's will be 14.4. You'll have plenty of power on tap, and @ 4 ohm. Which is absolutely ideal. You can run a DVC 2 ohm in series and get 4 ohms. and then still have the option of running it in parallel and getting 1 ohm. Or even a SVC 4 ohm. You have the most options at this point.

I sincerely vote keep it. Even though it's AB, it's a cool thing.

What Treo is it? Link me specs and price, and i'll model some stuff up and see if it's your best bet or not.

it does give me more wiring options as far as getting sufficient power at all ohm options, and yes its powerful. I have already blown many subs, including a Kove Armageddon that didnt want to die. It blew the cylindrical tube part of the coil straight out of the motor i guess. I should post pics one day, it looks crazy...but i figure it easily does 1000rms at 4ohm

the treo is SSi dual2 15 (looking for link)

Just got the Treo today, and man is the difference amazing. I re-wired it from paralell to series. despite my amp pushing it at one ohm the other day, the power at 4ohm is sufficient enough to avoid the 1ohm setting and potentially damage the amp. Very satisfied with the setup, especially the price I paid.

I will need a better box tho. Its currently in a Memphis prefab that is fairly close to specs, but not exact.
