Hey all,

Im James, a newcome to the forum.

Im semi experienced in car audio, but am now learning many more technical aspects. I am sure Im going to learn way more than I thought on this forum //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, I have a 1981 ***** am turbo, and had an Ok system in it. An older clairion deck with a bazooka powered sub and 2 6x9's in back, 2 3.5's in the dash. Since then Ive gone to this using used parts from friends upgrading their cars

-Denon DCT-R1 head unit with the copper case and silver front(got it today from a friend....this thing is jaw dropping!) Im not sure If im going to keep it though...its just 'too good' for my car..

-Eclipse 5.25" in the doors

-old clairion 6x9 and 3.5" in the rear deck and dash

-torque 1500W 2 channel amp (anyone heard of them? I got it cheap..)

-2 CVR12 kickers in small individual boxes

-Performance Teknique 1.5 Farad capacitor

-old school pyle pro 200w 2 channel driving the door speakers

4 GA wires to the cap and amps, 8ga to the subs and 16 ga to the speakers.

The denon unit really makes these speakers shine...however puts out SO MUCH BASS signal to the amp! I have my 1500W down to almost 1/3 the gain and it kicks HARD

My main question is, Is the Denon really neccessary for a street car? I am really worried about it getting stolen..no detachable face plate either.

What do you guys think? If I were to keep the Denon, I would probably run all the other 4 speakers of a 4 channel amp, as to not harm the head unit, which is rated at 4x25W, but very loud.

I also need to dynamat the doors and trunk...desperately. The car just rattles to hell...but its 27 years old //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Any critique or comments are helpful!

Thanks!

That denon unit sound pretty cool...I didn't know they had car atereos. I know they make great Home theatre stuff.

If you really like it then keep it and don't leave your car out easy for people to break into. Get an alarm and read my writeup on how to do good alarm installs. If you run your speakers off the deck it wont harm the deck...it will harm the speakers (but not likely, unless you turn the bass up all the way and turn the loudness on)

EDIT: I just saw you have 6 (maybe eight) speaker? Then yes, you can harm the deck, unless you wire it up so each channel only sees around 4 ohms.

Thanks for the input. I have 8 speakers, 4 off the head unit and 2 subs off one amp and the 2 door speakers off another.

Since I previously had a deck with only one set of RCA outputs, I got an Audiolink II high-low converter for the door speaker amp. This is spliced in with the rear speakers, but I dont think that will cause a resitance problem will it?

No, wont change the resistance (noticeable at least)...they are designed to be seamless with their integration.
