New Headphones

i literally crapped my pants at the price.
Just giving them a listen and comparing to headphones anywhere from $10-$200 none of them hold a candle at all. Even with some of the best under $500 headphones they cant even come close. The separation, sound stage, etc. is just incredible. Sounds like your sitting right in a concert.

I did always enjoy the way my Grado SR-80's sounded. I ended up moving on though because I found the ear cups to be rather uncomfortable on my ears for prolonged sessions, and the open design just wasn't for me. Not that the open air design sounds poorly, because it doesn't, I just needed a little more sound isolation from closed designs for most areas where I listen.

I ended up replacing my Grado's with some Audio Technica ATH-A900's. The Audio Technica's are rather large and goofy looking, but boy do I love the way they sound. They're extremely comfortable and I love them. Had them for probably 5+ years and they're still going strong. No idea what I'll look to next.

Enjoyed reading your review, keep it up!

x2. I prefer closed ear cups.

I have had my sony xb500s for 2 years. If they break. I am just going to get another pair. unless someone makes a pair that has as much boomy bass

I really need some new headphones. My Shure SRH440s are just too heavy and bulky for me to wear. They don't clamp well either, so even though they sound good, I always end up putting them away rather than on my head. Really a shame though...

I'm going to subscribe to your blog. Do you have any other reviews lined up? Maybe some nice open headphones?

I like the open headphones for sound stage. I dont travel with them. Even in a moderately quiet room you still get alot of interference. If you wash the pads with Dawn dish soap they soften up alot. The one nice thing about Grado's is you can buy their low end line and mod them enough to be better than their highest end line.

I have a friend who has the XB500's. Sony has some newer ones they just released.

I love my Shure SRH750DJ's. I have a bunch of headphones laying around. My first set was the Shure's. Then I bought some FocalPrice CK700's IEM's for portable use and still find myself hauling around my Shure's. I then contacted companies for my website and have since had Grado SR80i's, VMODA LP Customs, Gorilla Ears AT5's, and have a set of Brainwavz R1 IEMs, and Fischer audio's on the way. I dont have any plans for any other open headphones to review. The larger companies dont seem to be very interested in donating. Its the smaller lesser known ones that are willing to do it. Sennheiser has some sweet headphones, but they are so large they dont need the extra exposure.

what did they improve on compared to the current 40mm xb500's that I have?

Looks like they ditch the ear cuffs for on ears //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

and updated the looks.

But how about the sound?

i read that bestbuy should have them on display. I might check them out.

Ive only auditioned a friends XB500's. I wasnt impressed with them compared to my Shure's. For $10 more you can get the 750DJ's from an authorized eBay seller shipped and BNIB. Here is a review I found on HeadFi.
