Depends, if you are going saltwater than yeah you will have to dish out. Funny thing though is I don't understand how you can't find anything below 300 unless you hate ugly stik rods.

Yes... they are cheap, great quality rods. They have great sensitivity and run 20-60 bucks on average. So, say you get a heavy rod for 20-50 pounds that's 55 bucks from ugly stik. (spelled stik) A quality reel will run you no more than 150 unless you really need that professional gear. Usually a 60 dollar bait caster will cover the average needs. If you want a conventional (salt water reel mainly) than it would start at about 50 and get really expensive.

I run the Abu Garcia silver max and Berkley lightning rod combo. I like it so far for cats.

That my favorite rod and abu garcia c5 one and c3 are my tournament reels.

and they hold up to saltwater fish. I easily pull in 36inch reds with no line stripping

I m gonna switch to spinning next and give them a shot they have a pretty good combo for sale at academy right now for like 30bucks.

Not a fan of ugly stik yea there indestructible but they lack sensitivity. I love penn for spin cast personally and you cant beat zebco for easy pan fishing

The actual rod I am getting is rated at 30-60 pounds. That is the closet thing I could find on their website although they have it in store.
