I know a guy that hand builds tube amps for home stereos. He'd build me one from scratch for like $700. I know there's more to these units, but 5 grand? Im sure they are hella nice, but that's ridiculous.

you guys wont believe me cuz you're fegs but i got a phil jones t500 as a present from a family member. Its a 500 watt tube bass amp( just the head) it retails for 12k, so yeah i am not suprised about the dd price

If you are gonna brag about msrp, you should know, its $10k ($9,995.00), not 12k.

You are comparing 12volt products to 120volt products, apples and oranges.

ha the 2 tube watts equals 1 ss watt thing was a joke, but I have noticed when I a/b'ed the power stage of my t500 vs my gk 480 watt ss heads power stage, using the same preamp through them, it just seems like tubes carry much more "ummph" than ss, but that might just be a factor of tubes heads being ultra warm sounding. 12k was a typo audioholic.

I bet some of those SQ junkies spend five grand on stuff like that with out even thinking twice. It amazes me.
