New amp or crossover needed?

First post...I have a question and need advise.

Right now my system in my 07 Jetta consists of: JVC cd player with 4 aux jacks, 3 way Cadence speakers in the front (4 tweeters and 2 6.5 woofers) and two Cadence 6.5 regular speakers in the rear powered by an old 400 watt max 4 channel Profile California 4 channel amp. Also have a 12" Alpine Type R sub woofer in a 1.5 cubic feet slot port enclosure powered by a 1700 watt Hifonics Brutus class D amp.

Here's the problem..the sub is fine though I need a bigger box and know my speakers are good quality but the problem is I cannot seem to get enough bass out of them and when I try to set my 7 band eq on my JVC it has up to +5 on the eq and is required to use a "truebass" function. Now the problem I believe lies in the amplifer. I have a cutoff switch for a crossover and that is all it does. It's called "hipass". Turn on the hipass and the speakers sound very tiny. Cannot get a good bass sound and if I force the settings on too high it sounds cruddy and have tried every setting possible and have to turn the truebass to around 7 out of 10. If I turn the hipass crossover off, then I have to set the "truebass" to 2 out of 10 otherwise it will have a near distorted sounding bass. I have also messed with the 60 hertz eq to 0 and lower and place the truebass higher but then it sounds weak also.

I think the problem is the amp's crossover setting and how it's tuned. I never had this problem in my old car when using a 2 way crossover with that amp. I still have that crossover and could still use it but would lose fader settings and would lose the "rear channel surround" effect the JVC head unit had and would have to use a Y connector.

So...should I get a whole new amp or another idea is I could get a 3 way crossover and was thinking instead of board type of crossover I could get a in dash type. I was kind of thinking getting a new amp and since I really love my Hifonics amp for my sub if I could possibly find a small one that is under 400 watts I could go that route.
