A moderator should lead by example in terms of being mature. If he's too wrapped up in being part of the community, he will not detach himself enough to make reasonable decisions. Its like the cop who attends the weekly illegal gambling party. I was always of the opinion that a banning should get a better excuse put forth than 'die ***', even if the offender had grossly broken some rule. The mod acting that way does not represent a 'moderate' attitude, even when his action of banning was justified. If a mod had time to ban someone, he had time to explain which rule was broken to justify the ban. If the problem wasnt time or effort, then the problem was simply a moderator with the wrong personality for the responsibility that came with the job.
