hey im new to this forum. i have a 90 mustang with an alpine 450 pushing the door speakers and an alpine mrp m1000 pushing two kicker solo baric l5s. the way i have the wiring setup is 2ga wiring to a distribution block. 8ga going to the 450 and 4ga to the 1000. i bought the subs used and are in good shape and were properly broken in.

I have been having problems with the amp cutting off with the gain past 50% and it will not take any bass boost.

my questions is, is this normal? or there is something i should look into?

the amp cuts the music but it stays on. i upgraded to a 130amp alternator instead of the 65 that came stock in my car and a yellow top battery. how could i test for lack of power?

so you have 2dvc sub correct? my 1st thought is that it's going into protect from haveing 2 4dvc, which can't be wired 2ohms. bass boost should be left at 0 so don't even worry about that part. do you bump for a little while before it goes out? do you have a volt gauge or is it justa dummy light? what's it reading?

This car of yours.. is it a honda? they have a output regulator that won't allow the HO alt to send its power to the amp fast enough and needs bypassed.

your obviously having voltage sag with the dimming lights, but you can test at the amps pos and neg terminals and the battery terminals.

thanks for all the replies, im gonna buy a volt gauge and check it. where should it be at?
Ideally, you'd like each of your amps to see 14V+. However, they should be operational down into into the 12V range. Under 12V and you're asking for trouble if you continue to let it happen. Definitely check your grounds as mentioned. Also read up on how to properly set your gains, you can't just pick a place for it, it's not a volume knob. It's designed to match the input voltage from your HU (or other processor) in short, to know how hard it has to work to achieve full potential. It's very likely, that the gain doesn't need to be past 1/2.
