Need help tuning speaker amp

What do you mean exactly?

Set the gains either by ear or with a DMM.

Set the filters depending on what he has.

If he has a substage, set the high pass filter depending on what he has his sub's low pass set to.

Also, what amp it is and what speakers he has will help as every speaker set generally likes a different crossover point for the HPF.

it's a rockford p 400-2 and will be powering 2 type r 6x9's. we have it wired at 2 channels at 4 ohms because he was like i don't wanna blow it so i was like alright sounds good. but i was just wondering what others' gains were set to

I'm not sure what you mean.

Everyone's gain knob will be set to a different point depending on the voltage your headunit sends out to the amp through the preamp RCAs.

in settings gains i really meant what to set the hpf at. sorry about that
Ah okay, no problem then! I wasn't sure whether you just didn't know what you were talking about or if you had confused it for a filter (which is what i figured)

Does he have a dedicated subwoofer or is he only running a front stage / rearfill?

In that case I would set it low.

I think the spec'd frequency response on the Type R 6x9 is 30hz-xxkhz

If it were me I'd set the high pass to like 45 or so so you can still get some bass since he doesn't have a sub.

I'm not sure though as I've never run an amp'd speaker set without a substage though, maybe someone else can chime in.

oh i'm sorry he has a kicker comp 10's for bass. but yeah he just wants his mids and highs through his 6x9's
Okay, for that I would set the Low Pass for the sub to like 85hz or so and then set the high pass on the speakers around 85 as well. That's a generally accepted crossover point.

Best thing to do would be experiment with a few different ones though.

Try it at 85, then try at like 75, and at different things. Just see what works //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
