what it is
Please bare with me here.

So my friend asked me if I would install a HU for him in his friends Pontiac Grand Am, so I thought it should be easy. Anyways it's just an old kenwood he bought from someone, so we go to get the dash kit. Now he decides he doesn't wanna spend the money on a wiring harness for the car, even though i tell him we won't be able to put the factory HU back in if we need to for some reason, and he says that's fine.

So I start the install, cut off the factory harness, start connecting wires, and notice there's only one power wire coming from the car, no switched power. So I play around and am able to get it turned on, and have one speaker hooked up just to make sure i get sound. Well no sound. Then I realize, **** there's probably a factory amp, and sure enough there is. So I'm thinking okay i'll just bypass it manually with the wires that go into the amp. Then i realize there are 4 wires that go to each component, leading me to believe the crossover is built into the amp. So I realize we're pretty much ****ed, and I can't just put back his old HU. So I tell him he needs to get all new speakers and I'll be able to get everything to work.

Now I get a text from him today saying that other shit is **** up in the car, like the power locks and windows, and it won't go off all the way. So wtf, I how did I mess that stuff up too?

lol, tell him his fauly cause he wont buy a harness, buy new factory plugs, wire them in and then get a harness. I honestly would have told hom I wouldnt do it myself without a harness, especially on a car like that, I am assuming its fairly new

Yeah I realize I ****ed up by not making him buy a harness, and also by not checking for a factory amp first. Will just replacing the harness fix whatever the fuck is wrong with the rest of his electronic shit? And it's a 2002.

well i think i'm just gonna try and put everything back to how it was stock and tell him he needs to not be cheap if he really wants this. and i'm thinking the other electrical stuff isn't working because of a blown fuse.
