ive decided im getting 2 15" alpine type R's, the only problem now is the amp. im pretty new to the whole car audio scene so if you guys could give me some suggestions on which amp would go good with these subs i would appreciate it. also im not sure which ohm configuration i should get on the subs, the dual 4 ohm, or the dual 2 ohm. im not really sure whats better or whats the difference. i guess it depends on which amp i get so if you could tell me which amp you recommend and what ohm configuration goes with it that would be great. thanks

the ohm configuration is the impedence, which acts as resistance to the power from the amplifier....you can get either dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm....with dual 4 ohm you can wire the coils in parallel and the subs in parallel and get an overall 1 ohm load

so, if you had a nice powerful mono amp (one channel) that could handle a one ohm load, you would be set....as for brands, im not quite sure....but you want enough RMS power @ 1 ohm to power each of the subs....for example, if your sub is 500 watts RMS, then get a 1000 W RMS @ 1 ohm mono amplifier

nice review not to technical to scare the noob off. New type r (grayish) or old (white) and you need to include a price range for the amp?? Do you have a preference wanna stay alpine or dont care? Check out this amp Alpine MRD-M1005 you can find it on ebay, its 1000x1 at 2 ohms so you would need the dual 2 ohm voicecoils on the subs. Basically look on ebay for 1000watt rms amps find the amp you want. If the amp is 1000watts at 1ohm get the dual 4 ohm subs, if the amp is 1000watt at 2ohm get the dual 2ohm subs.

List of nice amps

US Amps

Rockford Fosgate

PPI

Alpine

JBL

JL

the list goes on do a search

On a budget look at: Remember you get what you pay for!!!

Hifonics

California

thanks alot for that explanation, it really clears things up.

im getting the new type r. As for the price range, i wouldnt mind spending up to about $400 on the amp. i looked at the mrd-m1005 but its 1000x1 at 2 ohms meaning it would only supply 500 watts to each sub when the rms on each of the type r's is 750 watts. Can a sub be damaged if you supply it with less power than the rms stated for that sub?

You can get the MRD-1005 but you would have to get dual 2 ohm subs. But I would suggest getting Maybe on Orion 1200d that would fit you nicely

the Merlin MD2 from US Amps caught my attention. its 1521w x 1 @ 1 ohm
im not sure what the
It will put out more than that! That amp is way underrated! Not to mention it will be outta his price range. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Unless you have the 15" sub the rating rms is 500. If you still want to put 1600 watts look at the x7 birthsheet looks nice. Just search the forum or look through the classifieds you should find something for under 300. I second the brutus should see 700 or so but the people running 1200 watts have been at this for a while!!!!!
