I was runner up at my school when I was in 5th grade. All of those kids study for the spelling bee. Lawl @ the questions they ask. Is that of greek origin? Is that the "blah" blah meaning blah blah? A lot of those kids parents are foreign. Also to add, I didn't see any black kids in the spelling bee. Spelling bee=racist? I think this is something the board needs to review.

It's alright Phat, we just got a movie...Akeelah and the Spelling Bee, so that makes up for it.

On the other hand, I was in a spelling bee in sixth grade...didn't even get past my first word...which was "burrito". I spelled it too fast due to being over-confident and the double Rs sounded like one R. I was so embarrassed 'cause I was the 'smart guy' in my classroom who could spell anything.

You should have asked what origin it was, and had them use it in a run-on sentence... i bet you woula got it then
