Nak Cd400

I had a Nakamichi CD400 installed in my 2002 VW GTI one 1/2 years ago and up to a month ago its been trouble free. What is frustrating is the problem is intermittent. When I insert a CD the display shows "Loading CD" and I can hear it attempting to load but after 10 seconds or so it will eject. However, sometimes it will load if i allow it to eject/load several times on its own without touching the CD. My problem is I bought the unit from a unauthorized dealer and I fear Nakamichi will bill me big time to have it repaired.

Does it do this with any kind of CD?? Its not just doing that with "burned" cds is it?? Or is it doing it with store bought CD's too??

It happens with store bought CD's. Also, when I eject a CD that's been playing for a while its noticeably warm...almost hot. But this has always been the case which i attribute to the internal amp.

Well, seeing how you bought it from an unauthorized dealer all you can do is find a Nak service center and see how much they will charge you. Who knows maybe they won't charge you an arm and a leg like you think.

Hi adam71... i appreciate your interest. i'll follow your advise. from what i've seen on the internet, nakamichi is a well regarded brand in the car audio world but they seem to have reliability problems. actually i'm a rookie when it comes to car audio and i was mildly surprised to see they made head units when i first started shopping around, i thought they only made tape decks... anyway i was hoping someone experienced they same problem i'm having and had a quick remedy...thanks again...wavehog
