i've read toms of post saying that carpeting an enclosure will cause

you to lose a db

and i've read post saying it's not true.

so what's the truth behind this.

i do not believe there is any correlation between carpet and volume. unless you're carpeting the inside of the box.

they're either 17 and dont knwo bettr or the people who convinced them just dont understand physics.......typically, no......unless u carpet 10 layers of the port, maybe yes...otherwise no...........

depends.

some people have gained decbiles by covering their walls\enclosures with duct tape, or even epoxy and sanding to make it smooth. others had no effect. carpet can dampen sound waves so i can see how it might effect this, but if you are talking about a daily driver, you wont notice it eaither way.

this is like 1\10 of a decible stuff.

i can tell by the question that you have no idea, so dont concern yourself, carpet it if you want to you will not notice anything besides cosmetics.

Four comp vr 10s, doing a 155? We're going to need more details. What mic is all of this on? I only question because you're asking a question like this, but yet it seems natural that you're in the mid 150s. Quite difficult.

not 155 yet 152.6 best so far 5.5 cubes @ 38 Hz 84 square inches of port.

that was on dash pass. side with driver window down. on a 40hz to 60hz sweep.

build ing another enclosure tuned @ 42 hz or 45 hz to see if i can get a 155.

i just do local comps and drive the car a few times a week.

but trying to keep it with in rules for MECA street rules.

see all that he has to do is carpet... maybe lose one DB but then.... (and this is the crazy part) thrown an audiobahn sticker on his car an no only make up for the DB he lost on the carpet but also gain 2 extra!!!! its the 3 DB audiobahn law.... u can gain another six DB if u have ure CVRs baskets chromed.... haha
