Ok so it was late at night and i wasn't thinking clearly, when i came up with the idea to make a go kart. I was thinking about engines that dont need to shift gears, and i came up with my old 340 polaris snowmobile engine. Whould that work? I think it would hual bawls if i could make it work? It is gonna be a 2 seater and and off road one. Has anyone made a go kart before? Everything is gonna be from scratch, so me and a friend are gonna weld our own frame and stuff. The 340 would work as long as you can get a chain around the engines sproket and the sproket on the rear axel. Is the 340 a 4-stroke? If a 2-stroke it would screem. I bet if it was a 4 stroke you could pop wheelies. Just remeber to get the chain as straight as possible. Also when picking out sprokets the Higher the number the more top end, lower the number more bottom end, like peeling out and quick off of the line. Take your time when doing it, and by the number I meant the number of teeth.

My bad I didnt read. It is a 2-stroke. Should go 70-90 mph. My KX80 bored 20 over did about 50. I could beat a 400ex drag racing.

i built a go kart out of steel air tubing when i was like 14 and put a 6 horse tiller motor on it.its a pretty tedious job especially when u get into suspension

but its sweet when u get one done

My uncle used to build em all the time for my cousins.. ..Nothing to complicated if you know your basics.. I had one, but I felt a car would be a little more "decent" for my age.. ..eh.. $475 in my pocket..

i have a murray gokart that has a 6hp ohv motor on it that i broke the wheel off of. and im to cheap to buy a new wheel but owell. i found this website a while back its a build up of two gokarts two freinds made in the garage heres the web adress http://www.chriskate.net/gocart/index.html hope it helps.
