My LED Coversion Thread

All Grand Prix's came with all RED interior lights from the factory. Well i wanted something different. I started a project, i have around 20 hours into it so far and im almost finished. I converted all of my switches to Blue LED's with resistors, and i still have a few things to convert but over all, im almost finished and i think it looks real good. Everything blue you see, is all custom. I have 1 of 3 Grand Prixs in Michigan with the Blue LED conversion. Not easy to do but its well worth it .

10/07:

I two toned the Heated Seat switch with red and blue, so that when its on, its red on the setting its on. Heres some pics, also took some pics of the HVAC appart if anyone was wondering what they looked like on the inside, was giong to do LED's in that, but when i took it appart and seen how difficult it would be to do i decided not to. Also a few pics of exacly how i wired them.

Im so close to being finished, i have a custom gauge cluster in the mail now on the way, and im trying to find someone who will trade me my red Aeroforce scan gauge for their Blue Aerofoce. I still have the Shift Indicator by the floor shifter to do, and the rear lights have to have LEDs put in yet, other than that, im pretty much finished with the blue conversion.

All comments appreciated.

now to do those gauges... I bet you can find a whole gauge panel that already has everything you need. I found one for my focus before... Looks great though. I would be mad if that bish ever burned any of those bulbs

i got those same LEDs in my car lol
how did you get them blue though? because the cars have a red gel with white LEDs i thought?

I soldered in all BLUE LED's in place of the White ones.

And the gauge cluster is being custom made right now, a friend of mine is making me a white face reverse glow gauge with carbon fiber trim.

Nice idea. I need a LOT of new dash lights, but mind aren't stock LED.. they're just kinda shitty old lights they used in the 1990s.. how can I go about converting?

What did you do about the red coating though? And they have those gauges online.. Well for my car, 2002 grand am with the reverse glow gauges w/ white face on customgrandam.com.. Dunno if there's anything you could use on your car though from there

Here's what I've done with mine so far

Ive seen them online for my car, but i want custom. As for the red coating, the only thing that needed to be stripped was the DIC *Driver Info Center*, and the Shift indicator by the shifter needs to be stripped, everything else was white light bulbs with red covers.

I got them off ebay. 50 for $11 shipped from Hong Kong, took 2 weeks to get them.

But the DIC a red film was just pulled out, its easy to pull out once you get it apart, was a pain to get apart though, you have to solder everything back together, all the leads for the screen and everything, and the other red film you take nail polish remover and it takes it off nicely, just be carefull on the cluster that you dont rub through to the numbers.

I've been thinking about converting my cluster and panel to blue LEDs so I may pick some of these up. Do I need anything else or is it pretty much just plug and play as far as replacing the old with the new? (Don't worry, I will find a guide and such before I actually do anything)

It is far from plug and play, you have to wire in Resistors with the LEDs to convert them to 12 volts.... and you have to solder them in the right place, its hard as hell to get right the first time, it took me alot of trips back into the car to test the light before putting the switches back together, i made literatly 30+ trips but it was well worth it. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Yes. It's one of those fundamental truths I somehow manage to unlearn every time I figure it out.
