My friend just gave me a 250 watt 2-channel amp. How should I use it?

Hi folks! I'm new here and just wanted to say hello before my first post. I don't really know anything about car audio other than installing head units and speakers so please bear with me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My friend just gave me a 250 watt 2-channel Mosfet amp and I'm not sure how to go about using it. I drive a little 2001 Suzuki Swift hatchback and I was gonna install one of those Bazooka bass tubes that have a built-in amp to save room, but I'm not sure which way to go now that I have this amp.

I have a new Sony Xplode head unit installed as well as new 3-way 6-1/2" Kenwoods in the front and rear. The speakers offer close to no bass BTW, but the mids and highs are great. Someone once mentioned to me to just run a pair of big 6x9's off the rear speaker wires and place them in the back in their own boxes if I wanted more bass and wanted to avoid a sub. Wouldn't that drain power from the rear speakers?

How about if I installed this 2-channel amp and ran a pair of 6x9's directly off the amp itself? Would that be possible? Would the bass from 2 big speakers equal or possibly be better than a powered sub?

Thanks a lot!

first of all 6x9'x dont really put out a ton of bass. and you would have to take out the h/u to plug in the rca's. i would say get 1 or 2 8" subs and get a loc (line out converter) and since you already(assuming) know how to take of the door panels just tap into one of the rear speakers.

and you could always find room for 1 or 2 8"s in any car.

just my opinion.

and to answer your question. what brand amp is it?

The amp is by some company called "Road Gear". So hooking up a pair of 6x9's to the amp wouldn't be a good idea then? Do you guys know the specs for this amp? All it says is 2-channel 250 watt. I don't know the watts per channel or anything. Hell, I don't even know what the RMS is or what it stands for. Please help!

Well I hate to say but that amp would probly be best used as a paper weight. Roadgear = el cheapo junk. Like suggested in a previous post, I would go with one or two 8 inch subs. That amp wont push them very hard but will still ad a little to the substage.
