picked a spot in my door where i believe 6x9's are housed in this car with the premium audio package. decided to mount some AA6.5 mids.

here is the designated spot taped off

here is the first layer of glass

doing one door at a time so i can learn from the first door. first lesson learned...when fiberglassing to the inside ceiling of an enclosure USE CLEAN CUT PIECES =D

yes the window was rolled down during the glassing. it does extend to the other side of the door. it is pretty deep cuz i didnt have much room width wise. i think the speaker is gonna sound great in it.

tommorrow im going to build the baffles, glass around it and finish the install. hopefully i can get a flush mount as i had planned.

i really need to learn to glass. Looking good bro.
Is it pretty hard?
its not hard at all. its just a little messy so be well prepared. i read alot about it b4 i tried it so i pretty new everything that was involved.

those fiberglass forums are awesome check them out they have a bunch of worklogs. you will get alot of ideas on what u need to do.

here she is all dried and somewhat stripped of tape. ive already marked my outline where i want to cut. since i made it rather thin(because of it being completely enclosed in my door) i was able to cut 90% of it with scissors. the tougher spots i used a saber saw.

unfortunately i didnt plan it perfect. after holding up the baffle and the pod to the door i realized i didnt leave myself any room to mount it! the pod is about an inch shy of the diameter of the baffle =/

so i threw it back into the door

...and glassed a "lip" around the opening. it serves as a reference point for when im going to mount it internally and also as a place to mount thw baffle. that part i didnt think through b4.

it shrunk slightly leaving about a 1/4 inch gap at the top of the pod. this made it extremely hard to glass infact i couldnt make the glass stick to the top no matter how hard i tried. so im just going to have a little extra patch work when i glass the baffle.

here is the driver side. as presumed, i did a MUCH better job this time around. it is fairly clean, not much excess glass, and i covered a larger area. this time i had the help of a paint brush.

now is the wait.

those are coming out very nice.

i should of given you a hint, but i figured you knew. but for future refrence.

is always a good idea to have the baffle where the speaker going to seat made before you start glasing away. it lets you know where to mark with a magic marker on the tape where your baffle will be, that way you dont over lap to far, or not enogh.

once you lay the tape down and is marked with the magic marker. mix enogh resin to cover the taped area so you can do one layer of resin alone, mix it a tad bit hot. but not too hot to where it gets hard in the can. once you have covered the area with resin and its starts to dry it will get very taky, sticky. so you can hand lay the first layer of mat on that and it will stick like glue. specialy usefull on the top parts where youre having issues. make sure there are no air bubles and its layed as firm as you can, then you can mix your self another batch of resing and start glassing. then mat in plase like you did with the brush. and then when you pull that mold out it will have the marker line on there for you to cut. to get it ready for the baffle.

ps: if you need any help. let me know.

yah thats a good tip...that i didnt know X_X

so here is my baffle mounted

speaker in place. had to manipulate it to get clearance for the magnet

so far im coming to realize this isnt going to workout with a flush mount as i planned. the only way to achieve that is to cut a larger opening in my door OR make about an 1.5-2 inch baffle. maybe next time i fiberglass i will take more time to measure and plan.

and here is a cpl of coats of glass on the pod.

forgive me for the subpar camera phone pics =/

wow that looks super solid. looking good. so far too.

here is a link that may give you some ideas on how to finish it up a little.

and here is one of two door pods i made. as you can see no staples. just to minimize the sanding stage that is just the first layer of resin.

again man youre doing a great job.

keep the pics coming. looking forward to seing this one donel

yah i checked out a cpl of your projects so far. you do great work. ive read thru that worklod several times on fiberglass forums. been reading the forums for the last week b4 finally deciding to go ahead with this project.

thanks for the compliments!

edit: what do u suggest instead of staples? hot glue? thats what i was using at first but it didnt workout as i planned. i didnt get nearly a tight enough pull on the fabric.
