Must use "alternative wood"

I'm building a box right now thanks to the plans by jmanpc, and I've hit a problem. I'm running out of wood. I'm going to have to make either an entire side out of an "alternative wood" or make the port out of "alternative wood". Which should i do?

Go buy a scrap piece of MDF from lows or home depot. They always have scraps for sale, and its cheaper then buying another full sheet.

Dont use any other wood...

exactly...run down and pick up a 4' x 2' piece...like 7 bucks at home depot in the shelving area
