Multiple Alts

Did anyone ever hear, see, or have more than one alternator? To me this seems like a crazy idea, but it also is a great one. Since multiple amps and subs really take their toll on batteries, instead of hassling with a second batter, why not some how put in another alternator?

Sounds crazy enough to work, and would help me out a lot once I hook everything up next summer.

it has been done. i was readin a caraudio magazine and they showed an install. it had 2 alts and the second was just for they stereo and shit but it also had a second battery for the second alt. it was pretty sweet. if i can find that issue ill tell ya the name of the company that makes it

This is not B/S I've seen a 5 alternators set up in a minivan that hit an incredible 174db

and they were hook up paralel, series with multiple belts, batteries and capacitors.

That's crazy. Well now next question, does anyone know where I can get a kit online for my car? I have a 1984 Mercury Cougar XR7. Right now I either need a second alt. or a high output alt. If figured it out correctly, I need about 250 amps through 1 alt, or 180 amp second alt.

3 - 12" Brahmas and 3 JBL 600.1.

This is my show car, it's a classic in a couple years. Right now looks won't turn heads but the sound system will.

Plus I have a feeling that video monitors aren't too far away either.

I bellieve you dont need that much but if you insist try summit catalog, are you shure you have that kind of money? LOL. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You know that's one of my fantasies. Pull into school and tell everyone to watch this. Pop in the woofer cooker and pop goes the lid. :p //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But seriously YES.

It would be alot easier to just get a 280- 300amp alt to replace your current one. If you want extended engine off listening time add a couple optima's. An extra or high output alt will only help if the engine is running and revved up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes, true. My problem with this is that I have no room for a second battery. There is limited space in the trunk and that is getting all used up. That is what I was planning on doing anyway, running with the engine on that is.

Ok thanks for the input. I'll see what my options are when I finally get the money to do it.
