Multi-Subs Not Moving in Sync with Each Other

As some of you may know, I recently installed 8 RE8's in a 4 cu ft box on a DEI 2400d amp. The subs are wired @ 4-ohm so they subs are getting about 1400 watts total, give or take of course.

Now, I haven't had time to adjust or tweak any of the settings. I just have everything on 0 and the gain is a little less than half up (where it usually is).

So, I was at a stop light waiting for the longest when I decided to pull the back seat down and look at the subs moving. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Well, it appears that they aren't moving in sync with each other. I mean, when 6 of them move out it looks like 2 are moving in. Something like that anyway. Now, it doesn't appear to do that unless the volume is cranked up a bit to get the cones moving more. Anyway ideas?

I am going to check the box for air leaks and everything Sat morning anyway. I am going to test it with the subs and port firing to the rear first before I decide to seal the trunk off entirely. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, whichever way I face it, if it still does it I am going to seal the box as well just to be sure of no air leaks. If that isn't the cause, then anyone have some ideas of what could be causing this? Thanks.

the obvious thing would be that you wired two of them out of phase. Check the wiring.

Mine were wired perfectly, the box was airtight and fiberglassed....all tuned at 41 hz and two of the woofers still did this. So try suggesting something else....

Sorry, but there really is NO other way 2 woofers out of 6 would play out of phase if they werent wired out of phase, we all make mistakes, check the wiring. Is your output also lacking? If two were out of phase, they would cancell out half of the other 4s output making it sound like just a pair of 8s. Could be an optical illusion aswell.

Actually, you are quite wrong. The woofers were wired in phase, unless RE has the positive and negative poles marked incorrectly. The output was not lacking at all, just seemed like the woofers were fighting for each other's airspace, which wouldn't make any sense, as they were each getting .8 cubes.

As for the claim about just a pair of 8's, you are wrong there as well. The two woofers playing out of phase would simply do just that. If your statement were true, all 6 woofers would be cancelled, and there would be no sound???

How did this site go bad so quickly? We now have amateurs picking fights with seasoned vets...the other day it was audioholic....

Well, sometimes the + and - terminals are switched from factory... Never had it happen to me, but I've heard it happen to others. Perhaps switch the wires and find out if that fixes it ?

Im getting a little sick of you, 'seasoned vet' or not. I made a post that was not rude or inflamatory at all, but did disagreed with what you said (to a degree). Here you are like a week later still whining about it. We could have settled it there, in that thread, or via PM's. This is the second post since then that you've put me down over the 'incident'. This one I haven't even replied to before now. I find it interesting you are so upset over me 'picking a fight', when its you that continues on, in the open forum. PM me your *****es, or get over it.

And I know you are knowlegable in car audio, but if you think Im an amatuer then you dont know me well enough to comment on my experience.

i too have seen +/_ switched from factory,its rare but very posible just give it a try see what happens never know.

someone had advised me that it was a possibility of the cones not moving in sync with one another because of having so many subs with a single port.

Ya know, this is kind of weird, but my RE8s did the same (only 2 total tho), it seemed as though they moved opposite directions, like they were out of phase, but were wired in series, and then i tried on 2 seperate amp channels, never tried switching them though... Output wasn't lacking (for 2 8s) i still managed to suprise many people with them.

I wonder if, as said before some of them might ahve switched +/-

Or in my application, it had something to do with the location of the slot port, layout was like [slot port| RE8 #1 RE8 #2]

when i was running my 4 12's i had the same issue. i actually think that there is somesort of optical illusion that is created by running setups like that. with mine it was more obvious at lower freq's, and became less noticable at higher freq's. reversing polarity's didnt help at all, and they were all tested to make sure they were wired right.
