mp3 vs cd?

So... im about to put my system in, and had a question about music. ive seen talk on here about how mp3s often have distorted sound when ya crank it up, and could possibly do some damage to the system. i dont have any special equipment or anything like that to clean em up, just straight dls. and i know theres different quality, but i wasnt sure if i should just try them out, or if its gona be THAT big of a difference and should get cds instead. thanks!

mp3s have parts missing to them making it so you can store more. but you cant hear the difference. It will be like .001 secs missing every second, I dont know what it is but thats an example

The parts missing are the frequencies that the compressor deems un-needed and are cut from the song. So you dont have the complete frequency range in a mp3.

Also, almost all MP3-capable players plays MP3's with worse quality, then if you play created audio CD from these exactly MP3's with your computer. Bitrate is an important measure of MP3's quality. Anything over 192 kbit/s will be fine.

In a car the difference might not be all that much due to road noise and other distractions, but there's a reason I ditched all my MP3s and went to FLAC at home...

Life's too short for lossy music.

just use "v0" files.

its a variable bit rate file. you get a smaller size than 320kbps constant bit rate files, yet on the parts that play music you usually average around 550-650kbps.

music is dynamic and this compression method follows this pattern. uses a good bit of space for the parts that need it, and much less for parts that are less demanding. this means smaller size, and better quality.

In audio cd format each second of a track uses around 1400 kb and in an mp3 it uses 128-320 kb based on the encoding.

If you are into sq u can hear the difference.

every note, instrument is much more clearer in an audio cd than an mp3.

The dynamic range is one of the things compressed as well. Not that pretty much any "mainstream" music uses anything approaching the dynamic capability of a CD but the difference is still noticeable between the CD and mp3.
well yes, its compressed, im just saying for performance to size ratio, the v0 is your best bet for mp3's. at least IMO.
