MP3 files?

/raises hand/

I have asked questions about burning MP3's and this one may have been answered, but, one question I still have not got a good answer to is this:

I see people say they dont burn anything under like 196 kbps but on the software I use, it sayes "CD quality 128 kbps". If your burning from a CD, why would you need to copy at more than 128?

Think of it like this, your source is good (the original CD), but how you “record” the music and then encode it is what matters. Source, bit rate, size, none of that matters if the encoder is crap. That is why one MP3 that is 128kbs can sound better than one with a higher bit rate. It is all down to the encoder.

What makes the LAME encoder so special is that it uses VBR or Variable Bit Rate to encode MP3s. What this does is use higher rates when it needs to and lowers the rate when it can to keep the size in check.

Click the link in my signature and try out Exact Audio Copy and the LAME encoder. Once you hear what you can create with that, you will never use anything else again.
