Hey guys, first post on this forum, seems pretty cool with lots of info but I couldnt find anything when I searching this.

I wanna make a fiberglass panel in the back of my hatch to mount a tv, its gotta mount to the headliner, so ive got to make the mould with the headliner installed (dont want to take it out, warranty/lease etc).

How in the HELL would you make a mould of something thats ABOVE you and has a few contours and is parallel to the ground.....

I dont mind if its drips etc, but Id like it not to, BUT if I HAV to I can buy a throw mat to protect the leather, I just cant think of a product to make a durable mould that I can glass afterwards that would stay up there

I dont think modeling clay will stick to a non textured roof especially one the size of a medium square pizza lol

I dont know what styrofoam mold is but I have a feeling its going to be expensive

If it wasnt so late Id ask my sister what was involved in paper machey (ing?)(I think) if that would work

I think I want something that will dry quick n not drip if possible though, im stumped on it

Not sure exactly where youre putting it, but possibly take off the hatch and then glass on it? Not sure if the headliner you wanna mold is actually part of the hatch or not..

I'm a little confused about the placement of this too. Do you want to make a mount that fits in with your fabric-covered headliner?

Or like one that juts down so that you don't have to stare straight up to look at?

Get some pics man.

tape up the headliner with masking tape and lay down a drop cloth and use great stuff...a little at a time and build it up....once it hardens shave it off

hey, yeah this is going to be going on the roof tucked away in the corner but attached (using existing body holes) to the fabric headliner. I just need to make a mould of the base of the headliner

Great stuff sounds like an idea, or any cheap foam for that matter, but Im scared it wont hold its shape, Ive made an enclosure using foam as a mould before and had to scrap it when I realized the foam had shifted/changed shape after I removed it from the car.....

only use the greatstuff as the form...once you get it shaved down ..pull it down...glass over it....carve the greatstuff out that you need....and put it back up

Tape off the headliner with masking tape.

Get some spray adhesive and some aluminum foil.

Spray the foil and adhere it to the masking tape on the headliner.

Get some fiberglass resin and some 1.5oz fiberglass matte.

Cut the matte into manageable pieces and mix up some resin.

Give the matte a light coat of resin and stick it to the alum foil.

When you have about 3 layers of fiberglass on there and its completely set just pop it off of the hedliner.

Cover anything you dont want covered with resin because your going to get it on anything you touch and you will probably get some resin drips while doing it.
