I should have asked it a differ way. I have one already installed using a converter but it makes to much noise doing so. Is there a way to directly wire the xbox to the car. I was hoping yes since the xbox has a ac to dc conveter in it figured there had to be a way to wire straight to it???
I think xbox's run DC voltage. if you can find out the DC voltage you could hook it directly to your car if it is 12-14.4v if it is lower you could just simply do the math and put a resister in line to drop the voltage. if it needs to be higher then you will need to have a transformer. which will make some noise as well as need some sort of cooling.
You could replace the fans in your inverter and Xbox with quieter ones. Is this an Xbox 360 or a regular Xbox? 360"s need a 5v input and a 12v, or at least that's what the power supply says. You could buy a computer PSU, run it off the inverter, splice off a 5 and 12 volt rail and hardwire them to the cable on the Xbox though.
So if its 12 or under I am good to go and start ripping it apart but if not may want to think out my options then. Thanks allot. Yeah wanted to relocate the cd rom drive to the slot below the stereo and do allot of other stuff but it requires to take the Xbox apart so I wanted to be sure it could be powered with out ac power. I will look more into it and take it from there.
Its a moded regular xbox. I placed a 260 gig hard drive in it and its got more games and movies and music than my ps3 so yeah would be nice to have it in the car with no static caused by the inveter I have. Besides make it easy to send stuff to the car by wifi for the kidds on trips.
I will just pull it out of the car tonight and see what it is rated at. But as long as its rated at like 14 or under I should be fine to use power from just the car right?
HaHa thats what i want to do. I want to remake the center consel my self since I have all the tools to do it nice now. Mount the Cd rom below my pioneer unit and go nutts with the other parts. I have some cool ideas just need to be sure it can be done easy with no headache.
So yeah still can not tell what the amount of dc is. Pulled it apart and wow. Easy to use this in separate parts of the car but to power it still a wonder for me. The ac to dc power adapter has like 6 cables off it. Just like you see in a pc. What each cable is for is way past me. I guess a little more study is going to be required for this project. But I can separate every thing really easy. So the main big thing is the mother board I will need to place this in a vented location which I have in mind and then just need to extend wire the rest of the parts.
Still no idea on the amount of dc power to this machine. I do know it takes 120v and 100 watts on the back of the machine it says 100v - 127v ~ 2.1a 50/60 HZ so if anyone knows how to convert that let me know. Some times I am a little dense to all this but once i figure it out its a cake.
Since it has an inverter on it, we know it runs on DC, do you have a multimeter? And do the plus look similar to the one a PC uses? If you have a multimeter, plug in the unit and see what voltage you get from each plug, and go from there.
