Hey guys, newbie here,

I'm looking at getting an amp for my car. I'll be reunning JL XR 6.5 components up front and 6.5 coax in the rear. Havne't decided on teh sub yet. I'm trying to decide on one of the two amps I listed: the Memphis Belle or the Tarantula 800/5. Any thoughts on these. Pricing is about the same. BTW, it'll be in a mitsu evo with the sub(s) in the spare tire. Also, does anyone know if the tarantula is 1 ohm stable on the sub channel? Thanks

Thanks, I talked to Carl and he said it isn't, unfortunately. Still undecided though. I've never owned anything form either company, so I can't judge them. No soundstream dealers around here either.

for the money, yes SS, but for durability, originality and quality Memphis, hands down

i am a fan of SS, but since getting taken over by PA, they really have gone down IMO. gone are the days of the true classics, like the Pocasso, the 10.0, the 1002, the SPl12/15's and the Exact subs.

so yeh, memphis all the way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

(Memphis is more or less the same thing as SPL Dynamics, a v.popular and successful Finnish make. check out http://www.spldynamics.com for more info/similarities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

Which Memphis Belle are you talking about.

I'm running the MC1300D and it has did nothing but impress. It's rated at 75x4 at 4 ohms and 1100x1 at 1 ohm.

I'm running two Treo SS 12.44's and boston comps and 6x9 in the interior.

The only thing is this amp is going to pull some juice. It has 6 30 amp fuses on it. I have it in my Caddy that has a V8 4.9L with a 140 amp alt and a optima yellow top, the lights still slightly dim when at full volume.

Every single person I know of who has bought a Soundstream amplifier since PA bought them out has been happy with their amplifier ... They may be using cheaper components in the Edge/Picasso lines, but the Rubicons are still the original design by Soundstream, and the Van Gogh and Tarantula series are strictly Soundstream ... Same engineers designing the stuff, same people making the stuff, same factory ...
I agree whole heartedly, I wish that others would realize that just because PA bought SS doesn't mean that the product line was going to suffer. SS products are just as strong as they've always been. It makes no finaical since to spend millions of dollars to aquire a great company only to start making crappy products, and just as was stated everything about SS is the same. There have been cases were a product line has gone down after being bought out, such as the case of Lanzar being bought by Pyramid, it's a shame because Lanzar used to be one of the heavy hitters back in it's prime with all of it's products being top notch quality from their entry level products on through their top end stuff. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
