Mdf?

I recently found this somewhere: Avoid using particle board at all costs as it is too flaky, doesn't hold screws well, and swells up when it comes into contact with water.

I went to home depot and bought a sheet of MDF. The only thing I am worried about is if I got the right stuff. It does flake if you pull it apart, and it looks a little dark as well.

MDF is the right stuff, no doubt about it.

While MDF is better than particle board, it will swell on contact with water as well and should be sealed to protect it from moisture.
