MDF Substitutes?

I dont have any mdf to build my box yet is there any substitutes that would also be a good material to build my box out of and have it sound nice not like crap?

You dont "have" any? Well most of the time you have to go out and buy it at such places as Home Depot and Lowes. Most of the time you just dont have it lying around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok i dont need a smart *** comment.All i'm asking for is if there are any substitutes.Ok simple as that.

I wasent try to be a "smart ***." There really isnt anything better then MDF, its the most widely used type of wood that is use in speaker box applications. Some have used plywood and thats a big no-no. Partical Board is also good, but its usually less dense and is mostly found in 5/8" sheets which isnt as thick as 3/4". Go with MDF, its like $20 for a huge piece of it, big enough to build a 5-6cuft box...

the only thing better than MDF is HDF...but thats more expensive. there really isnt a good replacement for MDF. its about 20 bucks for a 4x8 sheet and thats plenty for any box...

Im guessing HDF = High Density Fiberboard as MDF = Medium. How much is that?

never seen it but im sure its just a little more expensive.

then there's lexan...which can get into the 1000 dollar range...

Ohh 1000 thats it? I think we all will stick to MDF...

I have had good luck with 3/4" floor board (floor underlayment). It's more dense than regular particle board and holds up pretty well.
