mdf = sore throat?

I use an unfinished bedroom as a woodshop to cut mdf and stuff on Monday. Now I have this awful sore throat. I was curious if the mdf could have damaged my throat or something. I am not spitting up blood or anything, it just hurts very badly. If this has happened to any of you, what did you do to heal it?

MDF is compressed saw dust and formaldehyde (sp??) glue def. not something you want to be breathing. always where a dust mask or respirator. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, i was messed up for a couple of days after i cut MDF.. I literally had neon green snot for a week... I also had a sore throat to boot... I just took nyquil/dayquil for about three days, and I was good to go...

x2, i remember accidently sniffing the dust of MDF and dam, it felt like i sniffed crack or something....

You are correct. I was an idiot and didn't wear a mask. I am at work now, so no nightquil, but will drinks lots of water. This sucks...safety ftw

A guy at the University of Australia doing his thesis for a Doctorate of Philosphy found that "occupational irritant dermatitis (exposed areas), sore eyes, sore nose, dryness of mouth, slight scaling over the back of the hands, and patchy red scaly eczema over the upper limbs, and in some cases on the face (skin patch testing was not carried out)" - specific to MDF dust.

man i made the mistake of using a diamond tip dremel bit to cut holes into glass bottles (guess what i was making) with out a mask..i had a fcking horrible sore throat for a week.

Yeah I used to get sore throats all the time from wood shop at school. I think it depends upon the person aswell..

i cut it everyday at work, i dont use a respirator unless im cleaning out the dust collector, i know i shoudl though, bloody noses are not uncommon at all.... i wake up a few times a month with a bloddy pillow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Yea, its always good to use as much protection for your throat and lungs as possible. I inhaled some fiberglass when I was sanding and it felt like somebody slit my juggular. In other words, hurt like hell.
