It's sexy, but I can't imagine spending more than 2-3k on an audio system.

****, Im not even an audiophile and I spent 2.3k on a headunit, front stage, sub, and 2 amps for my car, lol.

SPL= Cheap or expensive, either way it still sounds aweful

SQ= Expensive, end of story.

More on topic, my uncle has been snagging up some mcintosh every now and then for a few years now, sounds amazing. But, I agree about their speakers....weak

I wish we had something like that near me. The closest thing to that I've been in was the listening room at Madisound. Wasn't nearly as clean as that nor did it have that level of equipment. Of course, they are primarily an online warehouse, so the lack of polish isn't that surprising.

They do look nice, but like others, I'd kick my own ass if I ever spent that kind of money on something that was simply going to power an audio setup.

As for their speakers, they do look hideous. I don't know how they'd sound, but regardless, I just couldn't spend that much $$ and not regret it. It isn't common sense if it can be different for person to person.

Common sense would be something like "jumping off a bridge is going to hurt".

If someone has enough money, wants to spend the money and likes the way the McIntosh products sound it is not crazy nor stupid.

If the music being played was very simple with a limited to moderate tonal range, almost any two amps, ceteris paribus, would sound the same or incredibly similar to ear. However, change that music to something with a huge instantaneous tonal range, and I will bet all the cash in my wallet that the reproduction from a top of the line amp will be much more clear than that of some $100 piece-o-****.
