I have mbq and while good speakers I found the tweets harsh, even with the attenuation all the way down. I am running them active now and they sound better cause I can tame them, but Im looking at some more natural sounding speakers.

u can get the PCE or even the QSC series for about that price online/ebay.

MB Quart speakers **** azz, they lack midbass and details in the mids. the tweeters are just harsh and annoying at loud volumes. i used to have MB's and could not stand them what so ever.

I like my quarts, but the tweeter can be a bit harsh at times. Then again, I only have the Discus series, pretty much some of their lowest, especially at only $55 a pair on OCS, lol.

I have heard great things about MB quart, but I have heard more great things about the Crystal SSCS6's....and especially for the price...around $150 or so..check those out as well

If you go to cruchfield you can get mb quart qsd 216's for 499. Worth the extra money. WHen they first came out the list was as high as 1399.

It used to be that if you wanted to run Quarts, you pretty much had to get the high end crossovers for them. The x-overs ran about as much as the speakers themselves and were about the size of a half sheet of paper, but they made a huge difference in the sound. I don't know if they still have the upgrade x-overs available because I haven't considered MB Quart speakers in years.

The Quart's are decent, only problem is as Helotaxi alluded to... the top of the line models have good crossovers, the lower lines are dummied-down to hit lower price points, it's all marketing.

Check out ikesound... lots of closeouts on MB Quart speakers right now, they seem to be changing their entire lineup this year.

If you want the best bang for the buck, try Cerwin Vega V-Max or PPI 356cs, metal or soft dome tweeter, take your pick.
