MB Quart or Autek

I came across these 2 amps from a buddy dirt cheap and i want to know which one would power up a SSA Icon 10 d1 better. MB Quart ONX1.1500D or Autotek M4000.1D. i will be using this in a daily setup and most likely will be wired at 1ohm

Gonna have a rough time. D1 does not wire to 1ohm.

these amps will both runn at .5 ohm daily (ive done it along with 100s of others) however the mb quart has the exact same internals as the autotek m4000.1. the mb quart does near 1800@.5 .... i have the 1500.1 and it closes in on the brz1700

yup.... Atek went down south. crunch is still like an ant on fire that wont burn out. hifonics and mb quart are the only things left that havent went poop except the hfi series

I'd go MB Quart. Don't clip em and you are doing as good as anybody else.

i would never buy used gear from someone who openly admits to running amps below their recommended impedance. Just because the amp will run under those conditions does not mean that it was built for it or that it will not shorten the life of the amp.

it will only shorten the life of the amp if you cannot provide the proper current for that ohm load. i know many of people still using the sa1500.1 V1s and burping at .25 ohm and their amps are fine just like every other amp ran at reccomended impedance. you also have to factor in that it never sees that nominal load of .25 or .5 in the first place.

The increased current associated with lower loads is the thing that threatens to damage the amplifier. More current at the same voltage and the amp will dissipate more heat. This requires beefier heatsinks, power supplies, and output transistors. If the manufacturer did not spend the money to equip the amp with the necessary components you will shorten its life by running it at too low an impedance.
