Mazda CX-7 Bypass programming

According to the instructions that come with every bypass kit that is compatible with the vehicle, the CX-7 should program just like a Ford with PATS. After several repeated tries, I'm pretty confident in saying that this does not work. I spoke with one of the Mazda service techs at the dealership, and they said "That's not how you do it, but we don't know how.". This is for a customer, and he's been waiting for a couple days now to get this working.

XK04

Instructions say first key on, wait for PATS light to go out, repeat with second key, remove second key, and then remote start the system. I've tried this repeatedly. The car remote starts just fine if I put a key in the cylinder.

if it does have pats which im pretty sure it does it is possible that the vehicle is locked out from having a third key programmed to it which IIRC is what the xk04 does. that being the case he is either going to have to take it to the dealer and get it unlocked or go the key in a box route

I told him we'd probably end up with a key in a box. The Mazda services techs were baffled when I asked them. I told them to check the FSM for key programming, or let me see it, so I can do it, and the guy asked me what an FSM was....

werd we use howard keys for pats, pk3, pk3+, etc... usually...

as for the xk04... it is transponder based still correct? kinda like the xk532 for chyrslers?

if it is I usually have to take the 532's apart and hold them against the key cylinder to get them to program.

are the cx-7s smart key? i think they are?

Some of them are, Im not sure about this one in particular though.

Im sure its an 08.

Thats exactly the problem. You cant just program another key to a mazda or else the ford by-pass would work just fine.
must be just the cx-7, 3 and 6 work great this way. Is it entering programing or no? If not this is the way to program, my transponder books say it is no different then the 6 and the 3 so try this with a key blank in the box.

Note: In order to program an extra key or remote into your system yourself you need to have at least two of either the keys, or remotes. If you only have one of either then you need to go to the dealer to have them programmed in.

1. Insert one of the pre-programmed transponder keys and turn the ignition to "on", leave on for at least one second ( wait until the red key symbol in the instrument cluster extinguishes), remove the key from the ignition.

2. Within 5 seconds insert the second pre-programmed key and turn the ignition to "on" for at least one second but no more than 5 seconds (use the key symbol for this as well) then remove the second key.

3. within 10 seconds insert the new key in the ignition and turn the ignition to "on", if you are successful the red key symbol will illuminate then extinguish after about a second.

If you are not successful, the red key symbol will flash repeatedly to indicate that you have inserted an invalid key. Remove the key, wait a minute and try it again.

Im not sure what it was doing as I wasnt there. The op is a friend of mine and as far as I know that is how he tried to program it. But like I said Im not totally sure about what the deal is.
