Girlfriend said once she gets a new vehicle, I can have a bike. I'm not looking for anything too out there for my first bike, so I can see whether or not I want one as basically a daily commuter. I went to a Harley shop today, to look at the Buell line of bikes they carry. I looked at the Buell Blast and the Buell XB9SX. I like the price tag of a new Blast, and the engine size, as if I had too much power, I would probably kill myself or someone else. The Buell Blast has a 30 C.I. single cylinder 4-stroke, that boasts an astonishing 34HP. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif It has a suggested retail value of around $4,800. The XB9SX is a bigger bike, with quite a bit more power. The XB9SX has a 60 C.I. V-Twin, making 92HP. The price tag on it, is $9,000. Out right buying the XB9SX is out of the question, so payments would probably be around $180 per month. I've also looked at the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, good price tag, at just under $4,000. Leaning towards the Buell Blast or the Kawasaki Ninja 250R, out of the ones mentioned. What's a good bike, that would be more comfortable for daily commuting, with a price tag under $8,000 (before financing) new? I don't want something insanely fast, or extravagant. Just want something with a good resell value that I could decide whether or not I would like a bike for daily commuting.

If you're looking for a good starter bike with a good resell value, just get a Ninja 250 years 2007 and below, they're all the same with very minimal changes since the 80's and can be sold for what you paid, so you're looking to spend 1-2k.

Not looking to buy used, so it would be from a dealer. Only reason why I don't want to buy used is because I don't have much experience with street bikes. I'd rather have the 3 year warranty that is available, from the dealers. I'm figuring I won't spend less than $4,000 on a new bike, but if it's $4,000 for a bike with a warranty that I don't have to worry about,. If I can sell it for around $3,000-$3,500 if I did decide to get rid of it, I wouldn't mind losing out on a few hundred bucks, because I know I would at least get that in the experience of riding a street bike. I've only ever rode one street bike, and that was a '96 Suzuki Bandit GSF600S, about 2 years ago. I've been riding dirt bikes for about 13-14 years, but I've heard they are far different?

If you are small, then get the ninja 250. If you are of decent size, anything over 185 pounds, then I would up the size. The Buells are great bikes, but lack power.

Personally me, I would at least do a 600cc and learn on that. You will eventually want to sell the 250 and get something bigger. Hell, I started out on a 1100 Honda Hurricane and was fine. I am not a dumbass who needed to race everyone in their mother or doing wheelies at 80mph down the freeway either. So if you have a hard time controling yourself, then start off small.

You will probably lay it down at least once, so be ready for that. That is what a lot of people say don't get a powerful bike. Funny, speed is speed. A 250 will still go over 100mph and 0-60 in 5 seconds. So you could as eaisly kill yourself on that bike as too bigger bike. Simple as that, speed kills or the other people that can't see you.

Personally, since you are willing to spend 8g's, I would go bigger.

The most important thing he has ever said.

And because this is true, get a 600. You will be made fun of on a 250.

I'm leaning toward the Buell Blast. I talked to the people at the Harley shop, and they said in about 5-6 months (when I'd be purchasing most likely), they'd have their spring sale, to get rid of old stock. That means I could get it for around $3,700. I'd have to change a few things around, so in total, it would be about the same price. You all seem to think I want power, and speed. I don't. I want something with a good price tag, that can get me from point A to point B for now. If I do decide to keep riding, and want to go faster, I'll sell the bike, and go for something larger.

if you want something comfortable, and of that size, look into some dual sports, if not that, the suzuki gz250 is a great bike to learn on, and if I'm not mistaken, cheaper than the buell and more comfortable (depending on how tall you are)

The only reason why I want a smaller bike is because I'm 5'8", 140Lbs. A 700+ CC bike, to me, would be too much power for someone of my size. I mean, I see a lot of people my size riding bigger bikes, but those people got bikes to go fast, not for just casual riding, and daily commuting. I went to KTM of the Ozarks today, and I found a bike that I really like. It's a 2009 KTM 690 Duke, but I think the price may be a little more than I want to spend. I don't know the actual price, but I think it's around $10,000 before financing.

So far, the bikes I have looked at :

Buell Blast - $4,700

Kawasaki Ninja 250R - $4,000

KTM 690 Duke - Around $10,000? (Not Sure)

Triumph Street Triple 675 - $8,300

Kawasaki KLR650 - About $5,400

Out of these, the Triumph is the best looking, IMO. The KLR650, is the most versatile, and fairly cheap. The KTM, I would love to own, but the price is a definite no. As long as it is in fact what I assume it is. The Buell, is a comfortable bike to sit on, but may be a little to bulky. I didn't get a chance to test drive today, because of the wet conditions. The Kawasaki is the best price, but seems most people don't like 250's. It's still in the running, especially if I think a 600CC bike is too big for myself.
